Description

The Parish Lyre of Courtion was founded in 1921. The ensemble operates as a brass band and currently has approximately 45 active members, including drummers. On many occasions, the Lyre's musicians have had the opportunity to travel and perform abroad, including two weeks in Canada in 1997. In an effort to break new ground, the Lyre has repeatedly dared to offer large-scale shows. In 1996, for its 75th anniversary, the musical "Les Amants du Nadir," with lyrics by Jean-Philippe Decrême and music by Jean-François Michel, was performed in Misery. Then in 2012, to mark its 90th anniversary, the Lyre premiered Puccini's opera Turandot in an arrangement for brass band and soloists from the pen of its director Dominique Morel. In addition to various religious events and other annual concerts, the Lyre regularly participates in various cantonal and federal festivals.

In 2010, it won the 2nd category brass band at the cantonal festival in Châtel-St-Denis. More recently, it also won 1st place ex aequo at the cantonal festival in Wünnewil, but this time in the 1st category brass band. In 2016, it participated in the federal festival in Montreux in the challenging 1st category where it obtained a very fine 9th place. Keen to ensure its succession and to arouse young children's interest in music by offering them a fun approach, the Lyre set up an introductory music and music theory course in the fall of 2005. This course allows students to acquire a good foundation before embarking on the practice of an instrument.
