Description

The Edelweiss Brass Band of Semsales was founded in 1920 and has been a 2nd category brass band under the direction of Mr. Guy Vuichard since the summer of 2017. Its current membership consists of 41 musicians ranging in age from 12 to 79.

The Edelweiss has two different outfits for its performances. After abandoning its historical costume, the traditional Fribourg costume, bredzon and dzaquillon, became the official uniform. Finally, a more casual outfit in the form of an embroidered polo shirt is available for more recreational occasions.

In 2016 and 2017, the music society co-organized the renowned Semsales Alpine Descent. It also enjoys carrying the village's colors at traditional festivals such as the Cowbell Festival in Romainmôtier in 2016, the 55th Winegrowers' Festival in Eguisheim, Alsace, in 2015, and the Saint-Martin Festival in Porrentruy in 2010.

But the most beautiful memory remains the centenary, with the festivities that began in 2020 and were suddenly interrupted. The premiere of the show ARBRacadabrant will finally be performed in early July 2023, with the participation of the mixed choir La Caecilia and the village theater troupe Le Trac. This joint outdoor project revolves around the village's emblem, La Vieille Eglise.

From a parish perspective, the band always enjoys livening up religious services within our parish, such as First Communion, Confirmation, Advent Window, and Corpus Christi. Every year, tradition dictates that the Edelweiss musicians wake the villagers to the sound of the Diana on this day.

We also place great importance on the next generation of our society, training children as young as 4 in our music education classes, followed by music theory and instrumental lessons.
